His daughter Marjorie Minnie Verney’s birth certificate has his name as Walter James Varney (not Verney). I might have suspected that this was different person, except that the maiden name of his wife, daughter’s name and date of birth are correct. It must be same person. The listing as Ernest on Marjorie’s marriage certificate may simply be that the registrar muddled names, as her husband George Ernest Vernon’s father was called Ernest.
